Ok....If i reboot using an older kernel (3.2.0-77-pae) rather than new one of 3.13.0-46-generic, then the sound all works as normal and as before.
When going back to the new kernel I have the fault again.
Perhaps this will help with a permanent fix or perhaps I should continue with the older (outdated?) kernel?
Any ideas?
