Asked by lfrlng

I've done a clean install of Ubuntu 14.04 on a new Toshiba Satellite S50D laptop, and sound is not working.

I've been through a number of other post on this topic but none of the solutions there have worked.

Microphone is working (via Skype other side could hear me), but not the speakers or headphones.

In alsamixer all looks good for the generic device (which I have set to be the default), but for the hdmi card shows only a single item "S/PDIF" with volume set to 0 and won't increase - not sure if this is the problem or if it's because there is nothing plugged into the hdmi slot.

Output from alsa-info is at http://www.alsa-project.org/db/?f=2847c946708b856c45d309a1d477cd6a3e711ea7

Please try this solution:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-driver/+bug/1222249/comments/11

This means:

Setting the bios to CSM-mode and then reinstalling Ubuntu 14.04 LTS after booting with BIOS in CSM-mode.
