I cannot get any response from the sound output

Further to question 260914, I ran step 1C from the troubleshooting procedure as suggested. During the reboot some messages quickly flashed by saying somthing could not run and something about a broken pipe.

I then ran step 2 and the first part of step 3 and got the following output:-
