Sound does not work crackling and static choppy audio in background

Noob to linux, just installed 14.04 on a Asus Maximus Vii hero with i7 processor. Sound is static, choppy, and crackling when playing audio and video. I am trying to make the audio play correctly. I have started to trouble shoot from this post https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SoundTroubleshootingProcedure

Just to be clear, I do have some audio output via desktop speakers but you cannot understand it at all, there is a lot of static, and it is very choppy almost like it's in fast forward. This has been the case any sound comes from the computer, it does not go away and then come back, the sound has never been clear. Thanks in advance.

AgnstThGrn: I will try to explain step-by-step what I did to fix this. Hopefully the Ubuntu Kernel team will include the needed commit in the next kernel, so we don't need to fix this manually.

You need to install some ubuntu packages to build your own kernel. Then we download the kernel source, edit one file, and compile the new kernel. Then we install the new kernel, reboot, and the sound should be fine. :)

Become root: sudo su -
Download kernel source: apt-get source linux-image-$(uname -r)
Install needed packages: apt-get build-dep linux-image-$(uname -r)
The kernel source should now be located in your current path. CD into it: cd linux-3.13.0
Edit file: gedit sound/pci/hda/hda_intel.c

(Search (Ctrl + F) for "Lynx Point", and then insert these three lines right above "/* Wellsburg */") :

Save file, and close the texteditor.

Then build the kernel:
fakeroot debian/rules clean
fakeroot debian/rules binary-headers binary-generic

Now you need to install the kernel you just built:
cd ..
dpkg -i linux-headers*3.13.0*.deb linux-image*3.13.0*.deb

Reboot, and voilá!

Could someone tell me if this has been released yet? I have had no luck running the modification at all. It seems I don't have some of these files.
