No sound from soundcard, only HDMI

Asked by Guillermo Gomez

Hi.

I have just installed Ubuntu 14.04 LTS.

I have an AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4800+ × 2 with a CM6501 onboard card.

Great picture through the HDMI, but I get no sound from the jack output in my computer. When I open the controls, it only shows:

HDMI/DisplayPort
Turks/Whistler HDMI Audio [Radeon HD 6000 Series]

But... when I check "Input" at sound settings, LineIn and Microphone appears with a "CM6501" description.

I ran "aplay -l":

**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****

card 1: HDMI [HDA ATI HDMI], device 3: HDMI 0 [HDMI 0]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0

card 2: Device [PnP Audio Device], device 0: USB Audio [USB Audio]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0

It seems to be that Ubuntu actually recognize both cards, but it's only showing one (HDMI) to select in audio settings.

I'm confused, what should I do to play sound through my onboard sound card?

Thanks,

I've just unplugged the usb camera and ran the script again. Here's the output:

The USB card disappeared!

That's odd. Run:
gksu gedit /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf

Find the two lines (yes, there are two of them for some reason):
options snd-usb-audio index=-2

and comment them by adding a '#'
#options snd-usb-audio index=-2

Save. Quit. Reboot. Sound?

No, it didn't work. I cant't select the sound card, only HDMI.
