Ok. Im new to Ubuntu 14.04. Coming from windows 7. Since the beginning i got not sound. I tried everything i read around the net...nothing worked...alsamixer...pavucontrol....uninstalling an d installing again...nothing worked. ANY HELP is wellcomed. Thanks

If you run:

alsamixer

are all levels cranked and unmuted? Use cursors to select and change the channels. M to un/mute and ESC to exit. Press F6 and be sure the right device is set for output. Scroll hard to the right to see if other channels are present.

Then run the 'Sound' application in Dash and repeat the process.

Also test with headphones, do you get sound there?

i was able to oprn alsamixer with comand alsamixer -c 1
Only S/PDIF, Caller I and Offhook were muted. I unmuted them. F6 and i chose HDA Intel. Then i ran Sound in Dash. I chose Analog Output. Sound max. But when testing nothing to be heard. Also nothing to be heard when choosing Digital Output. No sound in the headphones.

ok...see i got no help here...i uninstalled ubuntu 14.04...i installed ubuntu 12.04...same problem....tried everything...no damn sound....im gonna install now ubuntu 11.10...ive read some guys had the same problem...it seems like these sound issues came with 12.04 vs

Indeed...after installing vs 11.10 sound is working....just i got no support for this vs....missing plugins...etc.....

upgrading via network from 11.10 to 12.04...keeps sound working!!! also, in sound settings appears now headphones
so i guess maybe it was problem with cd image installing
