the new firefox down loaded but did not install (2014)

I went to the Firefox web page and downloaded the new Firefox. But unlike my other computer that I did it too, it did not say to restart to install and when go back to the Firefox web page it says I'm still using an old version.

As long a you are using a recent version of Ubuntu (12.04, 13.10 and 14.04 at this point) you will receive Firefox updates with the Ubuntu update system within a few days.
If you still use an other version, please update to 14.04 as soon as possible!

There are also options to install manually or use a PPA (e.g. https://launchpad.net/~mozillateam/+archive/firefox-next ) to get beta or test version. This recommended for advanced users only.
