USB devices? What? where? Mouses JoySticks Web Cameras?

My old HP took the Umbuntu install fine. But now I can't get any USB device to show up or be usable??? I think I am just trying to fine softwair that works.?

What makes and model devices do you have?

The OS is called Ubuntu, not Umbuntu.

With the devices attached, please give the output of:

lsb_release -a; uname -a; lsusb

Ubuntu does not bug you with "New hardware installed..." messages. It just does that.

You have a joystick and cardreader attached. The cardreader shows up it a card it inside only. To use the joystick you need a game that supports joysticks. You test it with the programm jstest-gtk from the software center.
