It looks like the device is not even showing in lspci. If your BIOS has an option to disable/enable the audio, I would try the following:

1. Boot into BIOS
2. Disable the audio
3. Save and exit (will reboot)
4. Go back into BIOS and enable the audio
5. Save and exit

If that doesn't work, you can try a hard reset (check your model's instructions). If that doesn't work, it's probably a dead audio chip/codec...

Side note: you tried to use the wrong ALSA dkms package. Since you're running a 3.8.x (lts-raring) kernel, you would need this one: https://code.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-audio-dev/+archive/alsa-daily/+files/oem-audio-hda-daily-lts-raring-dkms_0.201401251347%7Eubuntu12.04.1_all.deb

Until your sound device is recognized by lspci, ALSA info is pointless. Have you tried reset procedures I referred to?

I also suggest you comment out the line you added (probably to /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf)

Change:
snd_hda_intel: model=mb5

To:
#snd_hda_intel: model=mb5

As above check the sound is enabled in BIOS.

Can you help with this problem?

Provide an answer of your own, or ask Josh Att for more information if necessary.
