[13.10] No headphones detected in designated jack (Alienware M14x R2 / Intel C210 / Creative CA0132)

My M14x R2 comes with three jacks: one solely for a microphone, one for a headset, and one for headphones. The headset jack is detected and will play audio, but is physically damaged. The headphone jack is not detected; that is, when headphones are plugged in, they are not shown in sound settings, and sound continues to play from the speakers. Additionally, the start-up sound will not always play at boot. I've followed the ubuntu troubleshooting guide, but found little documentation of this same issue. Disable the onboard Intel sound card.

Also run:

alsamixer

Be sure all the levels are maxed and unmuted. Also press F6 and be sure that the right device is selected.

In Dash search for 'sound ' and again, check the output device and levels and un/mute situation

All levels are maxed and unmuted, and the Intel PCH is selected from alsamixer. That doesn't change anything. It's not that the system is telling my headphones not to play; it's that the system doesn't detect the headphones at all.

I'm not sure why you would want to disable the onboard sound card -- it's the only soundcard available. Regardless, how would I disable it?

You don't want to disable onboard audio unless you're trying to use HDMI audio solely.

Best advice I can give is install latest driver: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Audio/UpgradingAlsa/DKMS
Reboot. If it still doesn't work, file a bug.

I installed the latest driver as per the wiki's instructions. Nothing has changed. Should I have uninstalled something first?
Also, I'm not sure what you want me to do with that code.

You're not supposed to do anything with the code. It was just a note that your sound device has a control named 'Headphone Jack' and it's set to false.

File a bug...

I tried sending a bug report with after choosing "green headphone out," but I received the following error:

urlopen error EOF occurred in violation of protocol (_ssl.c:552)
