how to restore sound on ubuntustudio 13.10
I did a clean install of 13.10 (ubuntu studio to be exact) and cannot get sound. I looked at alsamixer and nothing is muted. HEre is the output from my system

What is the output of:
wget -O alsa-info.sh http://
Saucy is not stable, ready or for casual users. There will be issues up to and even a few weeks after release. Doing a partial upgrade will also add extra issues. I suggest you also report a bug. If you cannot resolve issues like this then I recommend you avoid prereleases

i did a fresh install of ubuntustudio 13.10 on a new hard disk because my installation of ubuntu 13.04 on an old hard disk of 80gb ran out of space. i still have 13.04 on my computer. nonethheless i wouldlike to learn how to resolve the issue.

Unless I'm reading it wrong (not impossible), it looks like you should run alsamixer and enable some things (use spacebar to toggle).

I suggest a clean install of Precise. It is LTS, solid and suits your ability level. The pre-release is clearly buggy and is not for normal users

my solution on ubuntustudio 13.10: run alsamixer on a terminal by typing alsamixer at prompt
navigate to auto-mute tab using left arrow on keyboard
disable auto-mute if enabled by using down arrow on keyboard
