sound not working on Aspire V5-121-C72G50akk in Ubuntu 12.04 LTS

sound does not work following installation of 12.04 LTS.

My machine is Acer Aspire V5-121-C72G50akk

I have no details regarding the 3rd party vendor components since the computer came with a phony installation of Linpus Linux hence my installation of Ubuntu.

Anyone any idea where to take it from?

I am a complete newbie.

I'm no expert on sound problems but there is a troubleshooting procedure here:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SoundTroubleshootingProcedure

Follow it and post the results back here. To do this don't use the link given in the procedure as that will create a new question use this one instead.

My understanding is that the procedure assumes running access to internet in order to download patches etc.

I have no access to internet and will resume once wireless issue #236521 is solved

#236521 is now solved and sound has started to work ok
