Lucid desktop has 6 months support left. After that you will get zero updates and zero support. I suggest you upgrade to Precise (preferably with a clean install) as it is supported til 2017.

If you wish to still keep Lucid going, you can try:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-audio-dev/ppa; sudo add-apt-repository ppa:team-iquik/alsa; sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get dist-upgrade; sudo apt-get --reinstall install linux-sound-base alsa-base alsa-utils; killall pulseaudio; rm -r ~/.pulse*

Wait 10 seconds then reboot

I tried as per the instruction but it is same. Main issue is, It is not detecting 2 pin jack headphone if it is USB head phone it works fine. when i run command alsa mixer in terminal it gives below error
"cannot load mixer controls: Invalid argument"

This is a known issue with the ALC887 sound codec.

See the following bugreport for details:

Please run the following command in a Terminal:

gksudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf

Using the gedit editor, please ADD the following single line using the gedit editor:

options snd-hda-intel model=generic

SAVE the change to /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf

Then REBOOT and retest sound using headphones and speakers and microphone.

After rebooting, make sure all channels are UNMUTED and volume set to 100% in alsamixer.

thanks for your update and Now i can hear sound from head phone
but It does not show in sound preference properties as sound device under Hardware TAB
It would be nice if you could suggest solution on that.
