No sound in ubuntu 12.04

I have looked in different places and tried several solutions without results. I am using an Acer Aspire Timeline X 4830TG - 6450 Intel Core i5. Ubuntu 12.04 sound system was running perfectly, but it stopped working after an update. After another update it worked, and now after todays update it's not working again. I have tried a number of solutions offered in the web and they have not worked. I have all the alsa levels all the way up, I have installed alsa-daily repositories and i have edited the alsa-base.conf to add "options snd-hda-intel model=generic" all with no result. This is the alsa-base.conf I currently have:

I have also ran pavucontrol and nothing is muted. I can even see the sound bar beating as if there was sound, but none is reproduced neither trough speakers nor headphones.

I'm not an expert, so I don't really know what is happening. Help will be much appreciated.

Hi ,

in your alsa-base.conf , try to replace options snd-hda-intel model=generic with options snd-hda-intel model=auto

Reboot and if you still have no sound execute this command

sudo alsa force-reload

Thank you very much for your help. Funny enough, this morning I unplugged my usb mouse (which is normally plugged to the computer) and everything went back to normal. I don't know what kind of conflict it might have created, but that is what actually solved the problem.
