fast-track-pro usb// pulseaudio - MIC INPUT problem

here are mu alsa information

M-audio fast track pro card bypass the main Input microphone directly to main output.
For any configuration profile present on pulse-audio-control , also if the soundcard is set to " OFF ", the microphone is bypassed directly to the main output.

At the same I can't see any level of audio in input in pavucontrol.

I'm using mythbuntu precise 12.04.1

i managed in the past to make the card to work, I have used it for skype .

this my arecord -l , alsamixer says there are no controls for m-audio-fast-track-pro

I'm trying to use this sound-card with skype, and skype by default use pulseaudio. I have put on "off" my internal soundcard , I made this with application pavucontrol. I have tested the fast track output , and by defaul on mythbuntu i have found there 4 output working but the input are not working. I use the output for internet flash , mythtv , vlcplayer.

If I try to change configuration of the soundcard to obtain some input there are no configurations working. I know this soundcard is somekind of two soundcards together , anyway i think it's a problem of pulseaudio that have to manage the different configuration that the soundcard fast-track-pro can use.

By defaut no-one configuration let the level meter of the microphone to show somethinf in input in pavucontrol.

I have installed audacity and I have the same problem, I can select from both hw0,1 , hw1,1 (using a duplex channel A configuration in pavucontrol)) any kind of input but audacity level meter show nothing in input. The microphone is monitored directly to the output of the fast track pro.

alsamixer selecting fast track pro (F6) says simply:

now I try to move this question-bug to pulseaudio.

I'm havign the same problem here. Here's some more details --

My fastTrack pro used to work perfectly on 11.10 (indeed I bought it specifically because this was known). It seems something has changed in 12.04 that has broken it.

We've tried the fast Track on five different 12.04 machines and they all have the same problem. We have also tried a simular USB external soundcard, a Roland Quadcapture on my machine and had the same problem. The problem occurs both with PulseAudio, and when Pulse is disabled and only Jack is running. So I think it must be a bug in the ALSA-USB driver in 12.04.

It's nondeterministic, resettign the machine several times produces at least four possible behaviours:
 1. sound card appears and actually works in pulse (rare)
 2. sound card appears and can play back test sounds in pulse, but no input signal
 3. sound card appears, but selecting it as a pulse input crashes the pulse console
 4. sound card does not appear at all (in either pulse or jack) (but is still visiable with lsusb)

I was unable to update my ALSA as in the sound problem guide, due to:
$ sudo apt-get install linux-alsa-driver-modules-$(uname -r)

so instead I did the apt-gets from

This seems to be an extremely important bug as my tests suggest that it may affect /all/ USB sound devices, if it's a problem at the ALSA-USB driver level.
