Sound Troubleshooting
Was following the procedure for Sound troubleshooting. Had accidently uninstalled pulseaudio server in attempts to replace pulseaudio with ALSA. have lost all sound in my laptop.

So please try this procedure:
1. copy-paste the following command into the Terminal:
gksudo gedit /etc/modprobe.
2. Using the gedit editor, ADD the following lines to the end of the
/etc/modprobe.
# Keep snd-pcsp from beeing loaded as first soundcard
options snd-pcsp index=-2
alias snd-card-0 snd-hda-intel
alias sound-slot-0 snd-hda-intel
options snd-hda-intel model=thinkpad
3. SAVE the change to the /etc/modprobe.
4. reboot and retest sound using headphones and speakers
