Pre-listening of line-in not possible

When adding audio into the line-in this cannot be heard via the line-out.
Recording from the line-in with Audacity and playback works fine.
Tested with Ubuntu 8.04 and Bodhi-linux live-cd the pre-listening works fine and can be controlled by the audio control panel.
Are there some advanced audio settings somewhere hidden in Ubuntu 12.04 ?

Yes, there are. Go to the Terminal and run "alsamixer"!

It worked! , the only (small) problem is to use the settings i must use the terminal ,with the sound control panel this channel can't be controlled........
