Ubuntu 12.04 inaudible earphone trouble

Asked by Benjamin Nicholes

My earphones play my music at an almost inaudible level in Ubuntu 12.04, although they work fine with Windows 7 on the same computer. My computer is set up to dual-boot these two operating systems. I've tried to follow Ubuntu's Sound Troubleshooting Procedure, which has been ineffective thus far. Here's my ALSA Information: http://www.alsa-project.org/db/?f=3666c5ae2f8ae8e217c95bdfe8421c66df743d53

Hi there,

see if you might have your speaker set to mute or in the lowest sound level. Second thing which I would suggest you is that you update your sound drivers.

If that helps you solve your question, please mark thread as solved.

Miha

Your ALSA Terminal output indeed shows a lot of muted mixer channels.

Please run alsamixer in a Terminal session and use alsamixer to UNMUTE and INCREASE volume to 100% on all mixer channels.

Then retest sound output using headphones and speakers. Test audio output on all audio jacks at the front and the back of your PC....

Can you help with this problem?
