Trying to set up Skype on a Lenovo G770. The internal microphone is not detected, also not an external microphone when plugged in. Pulseaudio volume control also shows no audio inputs.

The inbuilt camera also appeared not to be detected till I installed Guvciew, now the video appears in Skype.

I did step one of the SoundTroubleshootingProcedure, and the external microphone now works on Skype. The Internal is still not recognised.

It seems that the following thread should solve your issue:

So please try this procedure:

Step 1: Open a Terminal

Step 2: Run the following command (copy/paste command into the Terminal
and then hit <enter>)

gksudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf

In the gedit editor, scroll down to the last lines of the alsa-base.conf
file and ADD these 2 lines to the end of the alsa-base.conf file (with
the file open inside the gedit editor!):

alias snd-card-0 snd-hda-intel
options snd-hda-intel model=auto

Step 3: Reboot pc and retest sound input.

Step 4: Make sure that the internal mic is NOT muted in alsamixer after the reboot.

Adding those two lines solved the problem! Skype now works fine from the internal microphone.

I was impressed how Ubuntustudio worked right away on all other aspects of this laptop, including a language choice at login, so my wife can use it in German, and I can set it up in English.

Now all is working.
