Problems getting sound working with Kubuntu/pulseaudio/alsa/envy2496. Probably related to #178442

Asked by James Oisin Flynn on 2012-05-27

Since upgrading to 12.04 I have no sound, previously working sound was an alsa configured 11.04.
When attempting to run start-pulseaudio-kde I consistently get "Module initialization failure"

Try:

killall pulseaudio; rm -r ~/.pulse*

Wait 10 seconds then reboot

No cigar. Makes no difference. Phonon still only displays "pulseaudio sound
server" and start-pulseaudio-kde gives the same old error.
