I suggest trying the solution at the end of the following thread:

This means disabling automute in the Terminal application called alsamixer.

Use the M key to toggle mute/unmute in alsamixer.

If that does not help, then run the following command in a Terminal session:

echo "options snd-hda-intel model=acer enable_msi=1" | sudo tee -a /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf

Then reboot and retest sound output using both headphones and internal speakers.

If the acer model option does not help, then try ONE of the following model options instead (3stack, acer, acer-dmic,dell, zeptop, etc....) .

 mix several model options at the same time in the /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf file.
