HP DV7 w/ internal Beat audio speakers/Sound card do not work
I have an HP DV7-6135dx with beats audio. After upgrading with a fresh install 12.04 I have lost my full use of the Beats audio speaker system integral into the laptop. As of now, only two of the 6 speakers are working.
Previously with Ubuntu 10.10 the fix was fairly easy. I just added this line to this file, rebooted and everything worked.
"options snd-hda-intel model=ref" "/etc/modprobe.
Following the trouble shooting guide that led me here, this is what I have so far. (I'm a Noob for troubleshooting.)

I had a similar problem, my DV-7 (exact type, I'm not too sure) with Beats Audio. Only the headphone was working after the 12.04 upgrade, but the command in comment #8 worked perfectly. After a reboot, the speakers are working, and the headphones take over when the jack is plugged in. Thank you!

When you say it's working, are you sure you have the 4.1 sound and not just stereo? Can you access the "subwoofer" and "fade" settings in the "sound" settings? I tried the #8 response and it's still the same for me...

I only have front Left?Right speakers working. The two rear and the built in Sub do produce any sound. Under sound settings, I have the choice of Analog or 4.0 surround. Even with 4.0 selected only the front two speakers work.
Actionparsnip's fix did not fix my issues.

gksudo gedit /etc/modprobe.
Add the following line at the end:
options snd-hda-intel model=dell-m4-1
For my HP Pavilion dv6 with Beatsaudio it helped enable 4.0 speakers. But subwoofer still not available.
