I installed the Ubuntu 12.04 64 bits from scratch on my Dell Vostro V131 and the microphone doesn't work too. It is recognized, but does not capture nothing.

I have the same issue on my Dell XPS 14z. Everything worked fine in 11.10 but since my upgrade to 12.04 I cannot see my external mic appear in sound settings

I got the same problem with Lenovo Ideapad Y560p.

Microphone used to work fine in Ubuntu 11.10, but after upgrade to 12.04 it does not recongnize any card for in-built microphone. Speakers are working fine.

Same here. One curious thing:

When invoking pavucontrol, levels show live mic input for a few seconds, then it dies out.

And I have the same problem. It appeared after upgrade to new kernel. In 3.2.0.20 it wasn't present.

After looking into the problem, I discovered a detail:

On my Asus 1005PE netbook (Intel HDA audio, vanilla Ubuntu 12.04 amd64), the internal mic was not present on the audio control panel, nor PulseAudio's settings.

After last week's PulseAudio update for 12.04 amd64, the mic was recognized by the PulseAudio control panel, as well as by other applications, including Wine apps (Rosetta Stone, for example: speech recognition works now).

My suggestion is: try recording with audio software first, in order to determine if the hardware is not recognized by ALSA or by PulseAudio.

On my side, the bug's fixed.
