Thanks for the help. But, it could not solve my problem.
Contrary to the link you gave, my main OS is Ubuntu and I use windows in virtual box. I have no problem with getting sound through speakers, but sound is like pause and start somehow. Is there any other way to fix it?

I suggest you report a bug, maybe others can advise

I have a bug open here for the same issue. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-driver/+bug/941219

Though there is a little fix you could try by editing /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf

sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf

Add the following at the end:

options snd-hda-intel model=auto

Restart your machine and see if that fixes the issue.

I have two Acer laptops one has Realtek ALC1200 which has fixed the problem. But my other one has Realtek ALC889 and an NVIDIA MPC 77/78 HDMI card. Which does not want to play well. The sound on the speakers stays muted.
