no sound in ubuntu 10.04 LTS
I purchased a DELL INSPIRON 15R core i-5, 2.4 GHz, 2430M laptop and installed ubuntu 10.04 LTS. Everything works well but no sound at all !!!! Interestingly, in windows 7 it also works well with full of sounds. Pls suggest me what to do.

What windows does is quite uninteresting. Its a completely different OS with different support. If it worked in Mandriva or Debian it would as they are both Linux.
Try:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-
sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get dist-upgrade; killall pulseaudio; rm -r ~/.pulse*
Wait 10 seconds and reboot. Is sound ok?
