How do I set default settings for alsa/dmix on clients

Asked by niplas

Hi

What is the correct procedure to set recurring "on startup defaults" for various audio channels on the thin / fat client? How to set volume and how to mute/unmute (excluding channels with jack-sense)

Simple answer highly appreciated.

This question is partly related to question #186291 but I just need a quick answer to the above so I started a new question. Have gone through all FAQs at ubuntu, ltsp, launchpad/ubuntu and alsa.opensrc.org.

Also related is bug #923923 which I might have reported in error, it may well be that I'm not doing things right over here :(

You can use amixerat cli to set volume levels.

Ehm, well thankyou, I know, but no..

I cannot use amixer or alsamixer to set persistent defaults that applies every time a thin (or fat) client boots.

Well, i guess I could run a script every time a client logs in, but thats not how its supposed to work I believe. (Also, since I have disabled the terminal on the clients to avoid abuse, its a pain to restore settings directly on the client.

Sure you can, add the command in a script and add it to the startup for the desktop

Can you help with this problem?
