Oneric - MCP67 audio does not work
Audio has worked in previous versions of Ubuntu, although not sure how long ago it last worked (perhaps a year - I annually edit video, and the audio was definitely working then). Just upgraded to Oneric and the audio isn't working.

Trying to generate audio through speakers plugged into the on-board soundcard (analog)/
Have tested with several applications and with speakers and headphones; none produce audio.

pavucontrol shows audio attempting to be output, but nothing comes out.
alsamixer shows all channels are unmuted and have high volume levels (80%)
I cannot hear sound through speakers, or headphones - but they both plug into the same card - I've tried both speakers and headphones in both output sockets since I'm never sure which one they should be in (although the speakers are color coded to suggest they should be in the green rather than blue output port)
This is not a dual boot system.

If you run:
alsamixer
are all levels cranked and unmuted?
Are the speakers in the correct port?
Are the speakers on?
Are the speakers turned up?
I suggest you play a sound file and plug the speakers into other ports, see if they work..

omg, I really don't know what happened, but after suspending and resuming the audio is back and now it works on cold boots too.
I would still swear blind that I rebooted every time (and more) suggested in the guide, but I guess this is down a PEBKAC error.
Sorry for wasting your time.
