i can not get my mic to work in my computer

i have a female plug in my computer for a mic and when it plug in it wont record anything, i have ubuntu 10.04 and the mic is a zoltrix uni directional mic. help would be appreciated.

go to "sound settings" and select input. just check whether anolog input is selected or not after connecting the mic into the jack. u can check the input there. also make it sure that mic is not muted there in the sound settings.
