Sound not working after 9.04->11.10 upgrade.

Asked by Mike Jones

I was running 9.04 on my ThinkPad R61 until yesterday, when I decided to upgrade to the latest. Upgraded from 9.04 to 10.04, then to 11.10. I cannot get sound working on my laptop now. It was working (with gstreamer, even) on 9.04. I have gone through the sound configuration settings and tried every option that made any sense at all, and got nothing from the test sounds. I finally reset everything back to defaults. Help?

Try:

killall pulseaudio; rm -r ~/.pulse; rm ~/.pulse-cookie

Wait 5 seconds, then try some sounds in VLC etc

Thanks. but that didn't help. I tried that then brought up the Phonon config tool and tried the "test" button, got no sound. Also started up rhythmbox, no sound. Checked settings in KMix just to make sure nothing was muted or turned down.

I found an answer by downloading a newer alsa driver - see linked bug.
