Asked by Jon Samuels

Installed Ubuntu 11.10 on my HP Touchsmart 300-1020 (alongside Windows 7). Sound does not work, except through headphones. Same when installed (as a virtual machine) on a Lenovo Thinkpad, so I know it's not just the computer. Is the best solution just to plug in external speakers?

Side note: Any drivers for the Touchsmart's touchscreen? It's not a big loss, but it'd be nice to have.

Peace,
JT

Can you give the output of:

wget -O alsa-info.sh http://www.alsa-project.org/alsa-info.sh; chmod +x ./alsa-info.sh; ./alsa-info.sh

Thanks.

Please follow the procedure here:

http://shanky.org/2011/09/26/ubuntu-and-hp-touchsmart-sound/

Then reboot and retest sound output using headphones and speakers.

Now I just need to see if there's a way to get the touchscreen working again.
