Codec + Mixer: Analog Devices AD1984A - card 0: SB [HDA ATI SB], device 0: AD198x Analog [AD198x Analog] - Audio device: ATI Technologies Inc SBx00 Azalia (Intel HDA) - Sound output does not work, except through headphones on HP Touchsmart 300-1020 in Ubuntu 11.10

Installed Ubuntu 11.10 on my HP Touchsmart 300-1020 (alongside Windows 7). Sound does not work, except through headphones. Same when installed (as a virtual machine) on a Lenovo Thinkpad, so I know it's not just the computer. Is the best solution just to plug in external speakers?

Side note: Any drivers for the Touchsmart's touchscreen? It's not a big loss, but it'd be nice to have.

Can you give the output of:

wget -O alsa-info.sh http://www.alsa-project.org/alsa-info.sh; chmod +x ./alsa-info.sh; ./alsa-info.sh

Then reboot and retest sound output using headphones and speakers.
