How can I install the windows audio drivers in 11.10?
I am using Ubuntu 11.10 on a Gateway MT3422.
I tried using the troubleshooting guides but ALSA does not recognize the sound card. It is Sigmatel version 6.10.5337.0 and I have the Windows driver.
How can make ALSA recognize it or use the Windows driver?
Thanks.

You don't. Ubuntu is not windows so the drivers won't work. 9 times out of 10 the default drivers are all you need, sometimes with a little extra config. Can you give the output of:
wget -O alsa-info.sh http://
Thanks

Driver version:
Library version: 1.0.24.1

So you have no ALSA driver installed.
Please run the following command.
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-
Then REBOOT and retest sound output using headphones and speakers.

Hmmm this sound issue is similar to the following issue, which was not solved unfortunately:
https:/
The main issue is that Linux kernel version 3.0.0-12-generic is not even detecting any sound cards at all on your PC.
I think the main issue is at the kernel level, not the ALSA level in this specific case....
The lspci command does not show any sound cards.
If the kernel does not want to play ball, then I doubt that ALSA will.
Best course of action here is to test LiveCD's from other distributions (Mandriva, Debian, Fedora, etc...) to see if any of them can detect and use your sound card....
And it seems you have never gotten your sound card to work in Ubuntu 10.10 or 11.10, if I look at the following bugreport that you submitted:
https:/
