sound not coming out of speakers after ubuntu 11.04 installation

Asked by Joli-A. Kabamba

I installed ubuntu 11.04 but the sound is not coming out of the speakers. I am running the ubuntu inside the windows XP and on the same hard drive. How do I proceed with the settings. Please be really specific when giving instructions because i am totally new with linux in general.
Thanks

Presuming you did not try this being a Linux Novice,SUGGEST>On task bar click Applications>Sound&Video>Sound recorder to get popup Untitled Sound recorder click File click Open Volume control> popup Sound preferences to see Out put volume with slider, move it to desired level.uncheck Mute.See Alert Volume do like wise.If sound OK you will hear Bark when Mouse pointer selects/clicks Bark in its button ring.If you don't get sound > click Hardware to see choose a device to configure
to view Internal Audio, if you have USB camera with Built in Microphone select it, go to Input Choose a Device for Input,Select USB Camera .If you make a sound close to Camera you will see reaction of Input Level Indicator.Next select Out Put to see Internal Analog Stereo, adjust slider to desired setting of speakers (This is as per hardware on my system may differ from yours also assuming you have OK sound on Win XP).Good Luck and let know how you fared.

Please execute step 1 and step 2, then reboot and send us the full terminal output from step 3 and step 4 from this procedure:

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SoundTroubleshootingProcedure

Please also specify the exact model and make of your PC (if known).

Can you help with this problem?
