No microphone on 11.04 - works in windows

Asked by Dick

I have a gateway notebook with sound card

0 [I82801DBICH4 ]: ICH4 - Intel 82801DB-ICH4
                      Intel 82801DB-ICH4 with AD1981B at irq 17

I get sound but microphone doesn't work.
I am using a headset.
It is not muted.
Tried system test software and it doesn't offer any help.

Tried talking into Audacity recorder and Chrome telephone - didn't work on either.

Sound Preferences is setup as analog line-in, internal audio analog stereo.

try open volume control, and check in "switches" tab that microphone capture is ticked, also that volume is up in "recording" tab, and if still not work, try also in "playback" tab...

if the tabs or tracks are not there, in edit, preferences, enable them...

Changed sound input tab in preferences to Analog microphone/microphone 1.

Then was able to get Audacity to work and Chrome telephone to work.

Thanks a bunch resolving this
