No sound in 11.04 Worked initially but has stopped working since yesterday.

Asked by Adi

Hi
I currently have no sound at all. When I first installed 11.04 it worked fine. But now there is no audio coming through at all. Neither music nor system sounds.
I ran alsamixer and nothing is muted. I also looked on sound preferences and nothing is muted there either.
There is nothing wrong with the speakers themselves because when I run Windows 7 they work fine..
My sound card is a Soundblaster Audigy.

Creative refuse to support Linux and I personally advise people avoid their products. They cause a tonne of issues.

Try:

killall pulseaudio; rm -r ~/.pulse*

Then wait 10 seconds and try a sound based applicaion.

That didn't work unfortunately.. Thanks though.

Well it seems odd that it just all of a sudden stopped working after working fine for a whole week after the initial install of ubuntu..

Any other possible solution that's not buying a new sound card?

Found a solution!

I downloaded an ALSA Mixer app and started ticking/unticking random shit haha.
Turns out having "IEC958" ticked was the problem.. Not even sure what that is but hey!
