Does the system have a make and model?

The system is custom built... never had a problem with Ubuntu until upgraded to 11.04.

Creative refuse to support Linux in any way and the chips can be a nightmare to get working. I personally always tell folks to avoid their products. You may get joy if you run:

alsamixer

and ensure all levels are cranked and unmuted.

Can you help with this problem?

Provide an answer of your own, or ask Tim Gelvin for more information if necessary.
