no sound after updating to Ubuntu 11.04

Ubuntu used to work very well until I had an advice from the update manager to upgrade Ubuntu to 11.04. Since I have no more sound. I have made all the advised tests described in FAQS from terminal and nothing is abnormal, I remain with no sound effect, no more sound with music, with empathy internet messaging etc.

What can I do?

You haven't given ANY information like what sound card you use or the make and model of the system (if it has one). How can we possibly diagnose with so little detail....

If you run:

wget -O alsa-info.sh http://alsa-project.org/alsa-info.sh && bash ./alsa-info.sh

It will give us a lot of information which will help

sorry I am new in ubuntu and not an expert! I don't know what is meaningful for you. I try. My computer Dell 2 Pata host Adapter IDE controller Intel. 2 hard disks 80GB; I used to work under WINDOWS XP. I quit for evr Windows and installed Ubuntu 10.10 "Maverick Meerkat" Release 1386. It works well; no problems all devices were functioning. Last week I receive in the update manager an advice to upgrade Ububtu to 11.4. which I did. It works well except that I have no more sound. I check: muted speaker, muted microphone; volume levels; sound preference, no alert sound, microphone recording, audio CD "could not open CD device for reading" and computer was shut down. Users setting: all users have all privileges. In system testing: no sound.
No video, no talk in empathy, google talk.

In a terminal: cat /proc/asound/cards
I have:

Open a terminal and paste the line to the terminal. Select to upload to the server and a red url will be generated. What is the URL

If you run the command as I gave it you won't have an issue, if you start chopping it up how you think it goes you will get issues.

Copy the command as ONE command and paste to a terminal. That is why it is given as it is.....

I remain with sound since one month! otherwise every thing work well but I am sad!
I have maid many manipulations advised in FAQ without any results.

Honestly?
Change your linux-distribution.
At least in my case this was the final solution since the ubuntu-team seems to not even consider this a real bug.
