Lenovo B560 touchpad and internal microphone issues

Asked by haroonob

The touchpad refused to work (cursor jumped all over the screen and spurious clicks happened)
The internal microphone didn't work.
I solved internal microphone problem by installing latest alsa driver but didn't find solution for touch pad. I tried http://www.oleg-sharoyko.net/en/content/installing-debian-squeeze-lenovo-b560-fixing-touchpad-and-internal-microphone-issues solution but didn't get succeed.
My OS version is Ubuntu 10.04

10.04 is from last year. If I'm not mistaken this notebook in quite new. Try booting the 10.10 or the 11.04 beta2 live CD images to see if the problems were solved in newer version of the kernel and drivers.

First of all 10.04 is LTS version and Ubuntu provides support daily or weekly. My Laptop is up to date with latest updates but still bug exists.
The Issue is occurring in other's debian distribution.
I faced similar sound issue in HP a year back and after some week updated It got resolved.Reason to posting this issue is just inform concerns.

10.04 will be supported for a long period of time, but newer hardware is supported in newer kernels which are not backported as updates to 10.04. Only security updates get backported.

There's the backports mechanism, you can use if you want newer drivers for 10.04: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuBackports

In the page you mentioned it says those bugs are fixed in newer kernels. This happens when hardware is new, it takes a while until it get integrated in the official kernel.

So try the backport repositories or install a newer Ubuntu.
