I'm trying to generate sound output: analog output via desktop speakers and or headphones. I've tried both and tried all audio ports. Also I check again and again to make sure nothing has been muted. When I play something the stream shows up in the output portion of sound preferences but nothing makes it out of computer.

Try adding:

options snd-hda-intel model=auto
or
options snd-hda-intel model=generic

to /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf

reboot to test in between. Also you may want to run:

alsamixer

and ensure all levels are cranked and unmuted.

Thank you for the quick response.

I did both of these options seperately and rebooted each time then checked sound levels and played audio. Still no sound. If anyone has other suggestions tell me if I should remove the "options snd-hda-intel..." before I try your solution.

FIXED. Seems to have been a physical connection problem, I should have used my own advice and been more thorough with the physical layer.
