No Sound on Ubuntu 10:10

I installed Ubuntu onto my Packard Bell Destop PC, but I have no sound on any application. I ran the diagnostic tests as described on this website and this is what the terminal produced. Can anyone help me please in fairly simple terms? Thanks.

I tried that and it makes no difference. I can see the bar moving up and down when sound is produced, but nothing is reaching the speakers. I have checked all the mute options that I can find. I have the volume up as high as it can possibly go, but still no success. It works ok on Windows and I don't know what to do next. I went to System in Windows and it appears that my sound card is Nvidia.

Try adding:

options snd-hda-intel model=auto
or
options snd-hda-intel model=generic
or
options snd-hda-intel model=laptop

to /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf

Reboot in between each test, only have ONE line added from the above list

run:

gksudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf

add the first line, save the file and reboot. If it's no good, rerun the above command and change the line you added to look like the second one, reboot to test

and so on. If none work, let us know

I am getting to the stage where insanity is about to take over...lol. I still haven't had any success. It may be worth mentioning that I am using a 50" TV screen as a monitor and I usually use the built in speakers. I don't have any problems on Windows 7.

Add my first suggestion, save the new file and reboot. If it doesn't work, re-edit the file and delete the line you added and try my second suggestion, and so on.
