What make and model is the system?

ok ThinkCentre comes in SEVERAL flavours:

Sorry.
The model is ThinkCentre A50p

Try running:

gksudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf

and add:

options snd-hda-intel model=thinkpad

Save the new file and reboot to test.

If that doesn't work then try:

options snd_hda_intel model=6stack-dell

Instead

If that doesn't work then try:

options snd_hda_intel model=6stack-dell

Instead

Copy-paste the following command into the Terminal to edit the configuration file /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf

gksudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf

Using the gedit editor, REMOVE the following configuration line:

options snd-hda-intel model=3stack

Using the gedit editor, ADD the following configuration line:

options snd-hda-intel model=laptop-eapd

Save the changes to the /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf file.

Then reboot and retest sound using headphones and speakers.

If this workaround does not help, then I suspect that your sound chip is suffering from the following bug:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/308872

Only test ONE model option at a time in the alsa-base.conf file between each reboot of the PC.

Never mix several model options into the same alsa-base.conf file.

I've test following models but still not working:
3stack
thinkpad
laptop-eapd
6stack-dell

It is the same result for all (headphones working fine but internal speakers not working)

I try several configurations in /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf with the same result Eddy K. Soro has.
