Headphones do not work but speakers do. Nothing happens when I plug in the headphones and sound is still produced by speakers.

First install Kubuntu 10.04.

I advise against testing the Linuxant ALSA drivers in Ubuntu 10.10, as previous tests with the Linuxant drivers FAILED in Ubuntu 10.10. That is why you need to install Kubuntu 10.04 first.

It might help, but it could also make things a lot worse, because ALSA driver 1.0.24 has not yet been tested (well enough) in Ubuntu, as far as I know. This is normal, because the new driver was only released 1 week ago.

Problem could be solved with a hint from here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/680844

I added

options snd-hda-intel model=ideapad

to

/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf

and after a reboot the headphones worked.

The changelog of ALSA 1.0.24 gave the decisive hint (http://www.alsa-project.org/main/index.php/Detailed_HDA_changes_v1.0.23_v1.0.24).
