No sound on Macbook under Ubuntu 10.10

Asked by Daniel Huxman

I installed Ubuntu on my Macbook alongside my OS X installation. Under Ubuntu however, I only get sound when I am not using speakers. Also, a red light is on in my speaker port. I believe that Ubuntu is looking for optical audio for some reason. How can I make it use speakers normally?

Please execute step 2, then send us the full terminal output from step 3 and step 4 from this procedure:

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SoundTroubleshootingProcedure

Please also specify the exact model and make of your PC (if known).

Aha! I fixed it. I discovered the gnome alsa mixer and unmuted it. Also found a way to turn off the light (turn off IEC958). Sorry, Linux noob here. :)
