ALTEC LANSING 5.1 sound system is not working with my Ubuntu 10.10 desk top edition

I have ALTEC LANSING 5.1 sound system with my ubuntu desktop 10.10 edition. But only two speakers are working. I plugged all jacks perfectly. But is is not working. I asked all my friends regarding this issue, who are using ubuntu 10.10 with 5.1 sound system. They told me that the same problem is also happening for them.
What I have to do to listen music in my 5.1 sound system?
