Audio trouble on Compaq Presario CQ56 laptop

Asked by James Anderson

Audio driver appears not to work on the CQ56 under Ububtu 10.04 LTS when it's booted from powerup. However if I load Windows 7 first then reboot to 10.04, audio works perfectly until power down. I'd really love to be able to scrub wind O's 7 from this computer entirely, I have much better things to use the disk space for...

Any thoughts?

Can you give the output of:

wget -O alsa-info.sh http://alsa-project.org/alsa-info.sh && bash ./alsa-info.sh

You want to click yes to upload.

Thanks

I suggest you upgrade your ALSA to 1.0.23 to see if it helps.

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=6589810

Has a handy dandy script, or you can do it manually:

http://monespaceperso.org/blog-en/2010/05/02/upgrade-alsa-1-0-23-on-ubuntu-lucid-lynx-10-04/

Both are fine.

I get the feeling this is going to be a regular thing with this bit of hardware.

Driver version: 1.0.21
Library version: 1.0.23
Utilities version: 1.0.23

Driver is still 1.0.21

Compile and install the driver so that the versions match
