no sound after upgrade to maverick

Hi. I had good sound finally in Lucid Lynx after running Soundcheck's upgrade of ALSA but very low bad sound after upgrade to Maverick. I tried to run same upgrade again but got message on line -c that make compile failed. Now I have no sound at all. I have a MSI GX740 with ALC888. This is what I gor in the diagnostic in the terminal

So you have 6 different model options enabled at the same time in ALSA. No more than 1 ALSA model option should be active at a certain point in time.

Please run the following command to delete all the extra ALSA configuration files:

sudo rm /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf.save*

Then reboot and retest sound via headphones and speakers.

If that does not help, then please proceed with the following procedure:

Step 1: Open Terminal from "Applications->Accessories->
Terminal"

Step 2: Run the following command (copy/paste command into the Terminal and then hit <enter>)

gksudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf

In the gedit editor, scroll down to the last lines of the alsa-base.conf file and ADD these 2 lines to the end of the /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf file (with the file open inside the gedit editor!):

alias snd-card-0 snd-hda-intel
options snd-hda-intel model=targa-8ch-dig

Step 3: Reboot pc and retest sound via headphones and speakers.

Step 4: If sound is still not working after a reboot, replace the targa-8ch-dig model option with one of the options below (for example: replace model=targa-8ch-dig with model=3stack-dig or model=acer-aspire) and then reboot and retest sound again.

Between reboots, only test ONE model option at a time!
