[Realtek ALC662 rev1] Playback problem Rhythm box will not play. there is no sound. I may have erased some necessary sub programs while I was trying to get real player to work.

Asked by Douglas Greenstein

I'm a novice to computers and Linux. Have the latest version of Ubuntu which I down-loaded a few days ago. The Rhythm box player was working fine when I first used it. As I said I added some GStreamer components which than caused the Rhythm box not to work and then I undid them. The real player still doesn't work. I really didn't know what I was doing!

Daniel my result was:

     rm: invalid option - - '~'

The terminal prompted me to get help as follows:

Try 'rm  - - help' for more information. So I have a slight understanding of what you are trying to do.

I appreciate your help.

Dear Dan, I was able to get it working. I guess I'm experiencing a learning curve with Linux and this Ubuntu. What I lack in real expertise, I make up for in persistence. I noticed some options in the Synaptic Package Manager such as the "uninstall everything option" and I got rid of the RealPlayer and completely removed the Rhythm box. I then re-installed the Rhythm Box and it still didn't work so I went back to the Snaptic Package Manager and installed a bunch of Rhythm box related files which were not included when I downloaded Rhythm Box from the Ubuntu Software Center, even though they didn't have that red circle image to the left. Fortunately they were written in plain 'enough' English so that I could understand sufficiently what they might accomplish. I'm playing a CD now and the radio works too. Thank you so much for your help and your commitment. It meant a lot to me. You are a winner! Sincerely, Doug I don't want to mess with the input terminal
at this time. What do you think?

Since you say that you've resolved the symptom described in the (original bug) title, I'll go ahead and convert this into an answered question. I don't think it's necessary to run the commands in the Terminal if you've already resolved the symptom.

Can you help with this problem?

Provide an answer of your own, or ask Douglas Greenstein for more information if necessary.
