10.10.: no sound

Asked by peter

Hi

I installed 10.10 in the test mode. And I didn't get any sound.

Would it be the same, if I install 10.10 definitively? And what can I do to get the sound? Thanks.
Peter

Can yo give the output of:

sudo lshw -C sound

Can you also make sure the gnome volume sliders are cranked and unmuted, then open a terminal and run:

alsamixer

and make sure no levels are muted and all are cranked.

If the system is a branded system or a laptop, can you give it's make / model

Your question is VERY bare and not very helpful but the above points will give us a tonne more information.

Please execute step 2 and then send us the full terminal output from step 3 and step 4 from this procedure (after installing Ubuntu 10.10 to the harddisk):

peter@linux:~# sudo lshw -C sound

The volume sliders are ok. Under 8.10 the sound works perfect. Also the ALSA mixer looks ok. The system is a COMPAQ desktop - about 8 years old.

I'll not install 10.10 til the sound works in the test mode.

You should submit a bug to say the sound in 10.10 is bad with your laptop make/model
