Loss of sound with linux headers upgrade

Asked by Babu Choorakat

I upgraded as usual to linux headers 2.6.32.24 generic on Ubuntu 10.4 yesterday and I lost sound. A similar thing happened with a previous upgrade and posted the query on launchpad and got it solved by following steps suggested in the following link :http://monespaceperso.org/blog-en/2010/05/02/upgrade-alsa-1-0-23-on-ubuntu-lucid-lynx-10-04/. I repeated the steps this time without any result. My system is an Inspiron 545 with a realtek sound card ALC 888.

Hello Babu
Are you going to upgrade to Maverick in October? If you plan to, I think you can just wait a couple of weeks and see if Maverick solves the problem.

You can also file a bug in launchpad as it seems to be a common problem with this kernel. But I guess it was already submitted, many people had this problem already.

Dear Francois Tissandier,

I Certainly am going to upgrade to Maverick in October and I can wait, but, thank God, my problem has already been solved by another kernel upgrade last week. I got my sound back with kernel 2.6.32.25.

Thank you so much for your concern and advice
