I just installed ubuntu 9.10 on a dell optiplex GX520 and I can't get any sound I checked the sound settings they seem ok still having trouble getting the sound to work any suggestions thanks.

Can you give the output of:

sudo lshw -C sound

You may also want to try:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ricotz/unstable; sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get -y upgrade; sudo apt-get -y dist-upgrade

Should help a little

Also run:

alsamixer

in a terminal and make sure all sliders are cranked and not muted.
