Acer Aspire 9800 - Ubuntu 10.04 - NO SOUND in the Speakers - Only in the headphones

Hello,

I need help please.

In the Acer Aspire 9800 Laptop the sounds works with the Headphones out but in the incorporated Speakers is not working at all. The sound hardware seems to be detected but is something wrong.

I read the archives in other forums and were other users with the same problem but i can't find a concrete solution.

Can anyone help me please?

I really need fix this problem.

Hello,

I see a linux kernel package in this PPA: "* linux 2.6.35-15.21 (linux 2.6.35.1 with maverick sauce/config)"

Is safe install this kernel in 10.04? What about nvidia drivers for example?

I have a similar issue with an Acer Aspire One ZG5. All worked fine under WinXP, but I took the opportunity to install UNR 10.04 when the ZG5's awful SSD broke and I replaced it with a CompactFlash. I assume that I did not break or disconnect anything while doing that. Under 10.04, and now under a fresh install of 10.10, the built-in microphone, the microphone socket, and the headphone/line out socket all work, but the built-in speakers do not (and I cannot see them as an output option in the mixer).

I saw some similar problem reports for HP and Dell netbooks but the solution for them was to upgrade the ALSA driver to 1.0.23 which I already have. Any ideas on what I can try next, beyond removing ALSA and trying OSS?
